L2TP Installation on iPhone, iPad & iPod
The current Le VPN app for iOS doesn't include L2TP - it uses the newer IPSec, IKEv2, and Wireguard protocols instead, which are faster and just as easy to set up. If you specifically need L2TP, this guide covers manual setup through iOS's built-in VPN settings.
Recommended: use the Le VPN app
For the best speed and security, use the current Le VPN app for iOS (requires iOS 16 or later) with Wireguard or Stealth Wireguard - the best choice, with no manual configuration needed. IPSec and IKEv2 are also available as solid alternatives. Download the app, sign in with your VPN credentials, pick a server, and tap Connect.
L2TP is not included in the current app. We still fully support L2TP through iOS's own VPN settings for people who need it - an older device, a network or router that only allows L2TP, or a personal preference. The manual steps below will get you connected.
Manual L2TP Setup on iPhone, iPad & iPod
Need L2TP specifically? Configure it through iOS's built-in VPN client using the steps below.
Add a VPN configuration
Open Settings > General > VPN & Device Management > VPN, tap Add VPN Configuration, and choose L2TP as the type.
Fill in the fields
Enter a Description (e.g. "Le VPN"), the server address and shared secret from below, and your VPN username and password. Leave RSA SecurID off and turn Send All Traffic on.
Save and connect
Tap Done to save. Back on the VPN screen, switch the toggle next to your new profile to ON to connect.
Once connected, confirm it worked by checking your IP address - it should show the VPN server's location, not your own.
Server address and shared secret
L2TP doesn't use downloadable configuration files - you just need a server hostname and the shared secret below.
Server address: use the hostname for the location you want, in the format country-code.zeropointer.net - for example uk.zeropointer.net for the UK or fr.zeropointer.net for France. See the full list of available server locations on our server status page.

Quick recap
This guide covers manual L2TP/IPSec setup on iPhone, iPad and iPod through iOS's built-in VPN settings. The current Le VPN app doesn't include L2TP - it uses the newer, faster Wireguard, IPSec and IKEv2 - but L2TP still works if you configure it by hand. You add a VPN configuration, choose L2TP, and enter the server address, shared secret and your credentials.
- Platform: iPhone, iPad, iPod, using the L2TP/IPSec protocol via iOS Settings
- Add it under Settings > General > VPN & Device Management > VPN > Add VPN Configuration, type L2TP
- Use a server hostname like
uk.zeropointer.netand the shared secretlevpnsecret; turn Send All Traffic on - L2TP isn't in the current app - for the best speed use Wireguard or Stealth Wireguard in the Le VPN app instead
- One Le VPN account covers up to 10 devices at the same time
