Android terminals, a key target for cybercriminals

Alcatel-Lucent said there had been a recent “strong growth” of malware and cybercriminals targeting smartphones and broadband devices. This increase is parallel to the number of tablets and/or smartphones users worldwide.

KindSight, one of Alcatel-Lucent subsidiaries just released a safety report for the second quarter of 2013. It thus provides the top 20 security threats (cybercriminals), with such names as lZeus / Zbot (Trojan targeting financial institutions) ZeroAccess2, Alureon.DX, Sality.AT, Lolyda.B, Hupignon.DZ among others ..

As for mobile threats, it mostly concerns banking malware or spyware, the most common being represented by the Trojans who steal personal user’s information or send SMS to special numbers without the owner of the mobile device being aware of it.

The report states that in the second quarter of 2013, the systems deployed by the group, 10% of domestic and 0.5% of mobile devices networks have been infected with malware … Android and Windows operating systems are the most affected ones. They are victims of cybercriminals.
