PPTP Installation on Windows 10
PPTP isn't built into any Le VPN app - it's set up manually using the VPN client built into Windows 10. This guide walks you through it, plus what to use instead if you don't specifically need PPTP.
Don't specifically need PPTP? Use the Le VPN app instead
PPTP is an older protocol with known security weaknesses, and it isn't built into any Le VPN app - so manual setup is the only way to use it. For the best speed and security, use our new Windows app with Wireguard or Stealth Wireguard instead - it's faster, more secure, and far simpler than any manual setup. Prefer OpenVPN? Our legacy Windows app supports that natively too, with a kill switch.
Still want PPTP specifically? That's fine - we keep supporting it for older devices, routers, or networks that only allow it. Just follow the manual steps below using Windows 10's built-in VPN client.
Manual PPTP Setup on Windows 10
Windows 10 has a built-in PPTP client - no extra software needed. Follow these steps to set it up.
Open VPN settings
Click the Network icon in the taskbar (bottom right), select Network Settings, then choose VPN in the left menu and click Add a VPN connection.
Fill in the connection details
VPN provider: Windows (built-in). Connection name: anything you like, e.g. "Le VPN PPTP". Server name or address: your chosen server's hostname (e.g. uk.le-vpn.com, fr.le-vpn.com) - see the full server list. VPN type: Point to Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP). Type of sign-in info: User name and password, then enter your VPN credentials.
Save and connect
Check Remember my sign-in info and click Save. Back in Network Settings, select your new connection and click Connect. You'll see a Connected status once the tunnel is up.
Disconnecting
Open the same Network Settings > VPN screen, select your Le VPN connection, and click Disconnect.
Once connected, confirm it worked by checking your IP address - it should show the VPN server's location, not your own.
Finding your VPN credentials
VPN connection credentials
Used to connect via the Windows VPN client or the Le VPN app. Sent to your email when you activated your account - not the same as your client area login. Forgot them? Log into the client area and use the menu to view or reset your VPN password.
Client area login
The email and password you use to sign into le-vpn.com/clients to manage your subscription. Forgot it? Reset your client area password here.
