OpenVPN Installation on iPhone, iPad & iPod
The current Le VPN app for iOS doesn't include OpenVPN - it uses the newer IPSec, IKEv2, and Wireguard protocols instead. If you specifically need OpenVPN on iOS, this guide covers setup with the third-party OpenVPN Connect app and our configuration files.
Recommended: use the Le VPN app
For the best speed and security, use the current Le VPN app for iOS (requires iOS 16 or later) with Wireguard or Stealth Wireguard - the best choice, with no configuration files or third-party apps needed. IPSec and IKEv2 are also available as solid alternatives. Download the app, sign in with your VPN credentials, pick a server, and tap Connect.
OpenVPN is not included in the current app. If you specifically need OpenVPN on iOS - for compatibility with a router setup, a school or work network, or personal preference - the third-party OpenVPN Connect app below still works with our configuration files.
Manual OpenVPN Setup with OpenVPN Connect
OpenVPN Connect is a free, official OpenVPN client available on the App Store. Follow these steps to use it with your Le VPN subscription.
Import a configuration file
Download your OpenVPN config files on your device, then open a .ovpn file and choose Open in OpenVPN (or import it from the Files app inside OpenVPN Connect using the + button).
Connect
Tap the green + to add the profile, enter your VPN username and password as User ID and Password, then tap the connection toggle.
Once connected, confirm it worked by checking your IP address - it should show the VPN server's location, not your own.
OpenVPN configuration files
Your Le VPN subscription includes ready-made OpenVPN configuration files for every server location, bundled by port so you can pick whichever works best on your network.
Download the ZIP for the port you want: UDP 53, TCP 80, or TCP 443. Each ZIP has one .ovpn file per server for that port (e.g. Le-VPN-Argentina-53.ovpn). If one port is blocked on your network, just download a different port's ZIP.
