Fighting COVID-19, On & Off the Line with Folding@Home

Fighting COVID-19, the current epidemic that is not only ravaging the world’s health but also its economy, is the primary focus in many minds. As soon as we can do enough research and find a solution, we can return to our normal lives.

Folding@Home has made a revolutionary movement to donate our devices processing power to help researchers around the world achieve their goals.

As a company that has dedicated its existence in helping people stay protected, Le VPN has joined the fight and calls upon their current and future customers to join as well!

With just a fraction of your GPU or CPU power, you can add to the pool and become a part of something great, and also get a free VPN access from Le VPN as long as you are a part of this fight.

Together, it will just be a matter of time before the only viruses we need to worry about are those online! Join our Folding@Home team here.

Medical Research Needs Processing Power

Medical research takes time. Thankfully, most of the work today is done by computers. These machines can make models, predictions, and calculations hundreds and thousands of times faster than we were ever able to do ‘on foot.’

But, the processing power COVID-19 researchers have is limited. Nobody expected the pandemic to hit us this hard, and we must now do what we can.

By joining their team, you donate some of your devices processing power to the global effort. This wouldn’t affect your own performance significantly, and you will still be able to watch movies and play games during this lockdown. But, anything you don’t use will be used for solving the issue.

You can learn everything about how to start folding on their page and join our global team against this global crisis.

Le VPN is joining the Fight – Team: 254540

As nobody in Le VPN can sing John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’ a cappella, we have decided to join the fight where we can help.  We are donating a part of our processing power to the global effort and have started our own Folding@Home team.

And, we are calling on all our current and future customers to join us!

Once you have applied to the platform, select the team number 254540 to be in our team. Every member gets free Le VPN access for as long as they are folding, and one month after you left the battlefield.

The only thing you need to do is to submit a support ticket stating your Folding@Home username. Once we get it, we will extend your active Le VPN account and hold it for as long as your folding account is active, plus one month after that.

If you are a new user, simply make a free trial VPN account and submit the same form, and we will change your status to full membership to this month, and every month for as long as this plague is upon us.

I’m Doing My Part!

Every little helps. It doesn’t matter if you have an older PC or a powerful new one. The processor now found inside a Rumba vacuum cleaner uses processing that once sent people to the Moon. There is no device either too small or too large to participate, and thanks to all the common efforts, Folding@Home became the most powerful computer in the world.

Ideally, allow Folding@Home at multiple devices. You can select the number of resources of your total computing power that you are willing to provide for the research by picking between “Full, Medium, or Light” scales. In any scenario, it will always allow your active processes to take what they need first. This way, your PC can be fighting the pandemic while you watch Netflix on your laptop. Your PC can be running in the other room, beating COVID-19, while you are on the phone with your loved ones during the lockdown.

If we all band together, the processing power will make dozens of models and tests daily, bringing us to a cure quickly.

For as Long as it Takes

It goes to show that from Korea to Chile and from Svalbard to Madagascar, all Terrans can stay united. And with this unity, our victory becomes a certainty.

It is not a question if we will survive this pandemic, but when. And it is certain that we will exit on the other side stronger, smarter, and better prepared for the future. As humanity, we will treat this domestic threat the same way we plan to solve any future threat, regardless of the planet it comes from.

We will not go quietly into the night; we will not vanish without a fight!

If my computer is switched on but in sleep mode with the lid down, can they still use my computer’s power?

    • Romain Malburet

      Hello Robert,

No in sleep mode, folding@home is not able to use your computer’s calculation power. Your laptop needs to be powered on and opened in order to allow power-sharing. But, you can change the power saving options in order to, for example, turn off the screen after some minutes to save electricity. But in definitive, the computer needs to be turned on and using active mode.
Don’t hesitate to come back to us if you have any other questions.
      Regards,
      Le VPN Team
